Scholarship Application FAQS

  1. Who is this scholarship open to?

    The BFF Scholarship is open to all full-time nursing students enrolled in a state-approved associate or baccalaureate degree nursing program in the states of California and Nevada.*

  2. How much is the scholarship?

    A one time $5,000 Scholarship will be awarded to one (1) student in California and one (1) student in Nevada per academic school year.

  3. When is the application deadline?

    The application process opens September 1, 2023 and closes at 11:59 PM, December 31, 2023.

  4. Should I type or print my answers?

    We ask that you are able to provide the requested information in the clearest and legible format so that our scholarship committee will be able to read and understand your answers.

  5. Do I need to provide proof that I am a US Citizen or Alien with US permanent resident status/Alien registration numbers?

    Yes, it is required to provide a copy of your US citizenship or Alien with US permanent resident status/Alien registration numbers for scholarship consideration. This information can be uploaded on the link on the BFF website.

  6. What does current classification mean?

    Please indicate if you are a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior nursing student at your school or program.

  7. What is a statement of financial need?

    In 500 words or less, please explain why you need this scholarship and how you would benefit from it.

  8. What do I need to provide as part of my financial needs information?

    Applicant must provides copies of income tax returns, W-2 statements and 1099 forms to verify the information provided under section 4c. estimated income for June 2023 - May 2024. This information can be uploaded on the link on the BFF website.

  9. How do I send my video

    You can upload your video to the link on the BFF website. Videos must be 2 GB in size.

  10. When and where will the finalists interview take place?

    Finalists will be contacted and provided with the time and place of their interview by a BFF representative.

  11. When will the 2023-2024 scholarship recipients be notified?

    The California and Nevada 2023-2024 scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of March.

  12. What do I need to submit for my scholarship consideration?

    You will need to submit the following to the link on the BFF website by 11:59 PM, December 31, 2023:

    1. Completed application
    2. Essay
    3. Three (3) professional/faculty letters of reference (only non-family references allowed)
    4. Nursing school/program academic transcripts
    5. A personal black and white head-shot photo against a white backdrop
    6. A 4-5 minute video addressing why the applicant wants to become a nurse and the impact this scholarship award would have on their educational goals
    7. Proof of US Citizenship, Alien with US Permanent Resident Status/Alien Registration Number
    8. Requested Documents for Section 4 e
    9. Signed Release Form

By applying for the BFF scholarship, the applicant agrees to allow BFF to use their name, photo, video, an approved biography, and any question responses from their application materials on their website in the event they are selected. Quotes and/or original transcript from scholarship interviews are the property of BFF; BFF reserves the right to publish portions or full copies of the interview.

BFF promises to maintain the privacy of all scholarship applicants; their information will not be sold or distributed.

*State approved nursing programs/schools must be in the states of California and Nevada.
